Talons' Allner remains upbeat

Image Head coach Mitch Allner said he would change very little about Tulsa's first Arena Football League season, even after the Talons were knocked out of the playoffs in convincing fashion Saturday night.

Allner called the 68-38 first-round drubbing by the Tampa Bay Storm "a very bitter ending to a great season."

"We were extremely competitive in our new league, a league where there were a lot of unknowns, and played well for most of the year," he said.

Tulsa won a division title and earned the American Conference No. 2 playoff seed. The Talons were unbeaten in the Southwest Division, sweeping home-and-home series from Oklahoma City, Bossier-Shreveport and Dallas.

But Tulsa's 10-6 regular-season record was far from great. Counting the playoffs, the Talons lost three times at home for only the second time in franchise history. The 10 regular-season wins were the fewest since Tulsa went 9-7 in its inaugural af2 season of 2000.

But there were some high moments, starting with the season-opening 69-58 win over the Storm, a five-time champion in the old AFL, which folded last year.

The Talons led the league in several statistical categories. They were first in sacks with 36 and second in scoring offense, averaging 62.1 points per game.
